The Institute for Obesity Research and Program Evaluation has worked with, and continues to work with, the USDA Food & Nutrition Service on two research projects. Starting in 2008, ORIN and USDA – FNS began a Whole Grain Pilot Project that evaluated the offerings of whole grain foods in schools as a menu option. This study was a great success and led to a continuing project in 2009. This second phase of the project is centered on making necessary changes to help better identify whole grain products and improve their availability to schools.
